Dr. Subhash Garg is a pioneering dental surgeon, acclaimed academician, and the visionary founder of Dr. Garg’s Dental Clinic. With qualifications in B.Sc., B.D.S., and M.D.S. (LKO), Dr. Garg has dedicated over four decades to elevating the standards of dental care, education, and research.
He is a Fellow of the Pierre Fauchard Academy (USA) and the International College of Dentists (USA)—global honors that recognize his exemplary contributions to the profession.
Throughout his illustrious career, Dr. Garg has held numerous leadership positions, including:
- Founder Dean (Dental Faculty) and EC Member, M.P. Medical Science University, Jabalpur
- Former Principal, Government College of Dentistry, Indore
- President, M.P. State Dental Council (1998–2013)
- Chairman, Board of Studies (Dental), DAVV Indore (2013–15)
- Dean, Dental Faculty, DAVV Indore (2008–10)
- President, Indian Society of Periodontology (2007–08)
- Senior Consultant – Dental Surgeon, Periodontist & Implantologist
Dr. Garg’s legacy is deeply rooted in academic excellence and research innovation. He has presented numerous papers at national and international forums and authored several scholarly articles published in reputed journals and textbooks.
He is credited with creating the Gingival Bleeding Index, a significant diagnostic tool widely cited in landmark textbooks, including Lindhe’s ‘Clinical Periodontology and Implant Dentistry.‘ This index continues to be a cornerstone in periodontal research and education globally.
Another of Dr. Garg’s key contributions is the Modified Oral Hygiene Index, first published in 1987. A further in-depth study on this index was later published in the National Journal of Periodontology, and the index has since become an essential tool for assessing oral hygiene status. Today, it is extensively used by upcoming dentists and researchers across India as a reliable and effective method in clinical and academic studies.
In recognition of his unparalleled service to dentistry and public health, Dr. Garg was awarded the Padma Bhushan S.K. Mukerji Medical Service Award.
